At its heart, an LPR system consists of five interconnected components. In traffic management, they enforce red-light violations and speeding by cross-referencing plate data with traffic databases. Automated toll collection uses LPR to deduct fees without manual intervention, reducing congestion. Fleet managers leverage it to track routes and ensure delivery compliance. Challenges remain: bad weather (fog, snow) obscures plates; regional plate design variations require adaptive models; high-speed vehicles demand fast capture.
